After completing a four year degree majoring in sculpture at Elam School of Fine Arts, Amanda Powell wondered, what next? “Sculptor wanted” wasn’t being advertised in the New Zealand Herald.
Luckily for her, renowned Auckland jeweller Peter Minturn decided to have one last apprentice, and it was her.
She spent four years and many long hours sitting beside him in his workshop learning the craft of making bespoke jewellery. She then helped him start up the Peter Minturn Goldsmith School for the next three years, and became a teacher there.
